Copy Formula in Google Sheets

If you want to copy a formula from one cell to another cell, there are multiple ways that you can use it. And in this tutorial, we will discuss all these methods in detail.

Copy and Paste a Formula using Paste Special Option.

In the below example, we have a formula in cell C1 that multiplies cell A1 with cell B1. Now, you need to copy this formula to the cell C6.

  1. Select the cell where you have the formula to copy.
  2. Go to the Edit Menu and click on the “Copy” option.

  3. Now, select the cell where you want to paste the formula, and again go to the Edit tab.

  4. In the edit menu, click on the Paste special, and further click on the Paste Special > Formulas Only.

And when you click “Formula Only”, it will paste the formula to the selected cell.

Using Keyboard Shortcuts to Copy a Formula and then Paste It

  1. Once you select the cell where you have the formula, you can use the keyboard shortcut, Ctrl + C, to copy that cell.
  2. After that, select the cell where you want to paste the formula and press the shortcut Ctrl + V.

It’s as simple as it sounds.

  • For Windows: Ctrl + C, and then Ctrl + V
  • For Mac: Command + D, and then Command + V

Copy the formula using Drag and Down

If you want to copy and paste the formula downwards, use the keyboard shortcut, Ctrl + D for Windows and Command + D for Mac.

And, if you want to copy the formula to the right side, you can use Ctrl + R for Windows and Command + R for Mac.

The above shortcuts can also be used for the copy-and-paste formula to multiple cells.

Select the cell starting with the cell where you have the formula and press Ctrl + D (Command + D for Mac) for the downwards or Ctrl + R (Command + R for Mac) for the right side.
