How to Use Google Sheets Offline

As everyone knows, Google Sheets is an online platform that runs on a real-time basis on the internet and one needs to be online to use and update the Google Sheets so that it can sync to the cloud storage.

But many of us may not know, Google Sheets also provides you the option to use the sheets offline and once you are back online, it gets synced to Google Drive.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to enable the Google Sheets offline mode and how to use it.

Requirements before Activating the Offline Mode

  1. Google Sheets offline mode is compatible with Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers only. So, you have to use the Chrome browser or Edge for it.
  2. You have to install and activate the Google Docs offline Extension.
  3. You should have enough space on the drive to save the files.

Activate the Google Sheets Offline Access Mode

Once you are done with the above requirements, you have to do the below steps to activate the offline access mode.

  • First, open your Google Drive at “drive.google.com”.
  • After that, click on the “Settings” icon at the top of the screen and then click on the “Settings” option.

  • Now, checkmark the box next to the offline header to create, open and edit google docs while offline.

Select only the Specific Files to Make Available for Offline use

The installed extension is ready to save the files offline on your drive but it is not yet guaranteed that each file will get saved, so better to make the specific files available for offline mode manually. To do so follow the below steps:

  1. First, open your Google Drive in the browser where you have the Google Docs offline Extension already installed.
  2. After that right-click on the file name or click on the three dots next to the file name that you want to make available offline.
  3. Now, toggle the “Available offline” option to enable that specific file for offline use.

It will populate the tick-mark sign in front of the files which you made available offline.

In the below image, the file was opened offline and when we saved it, it got saved to the device and once we will back online, the savings will get synced to the drive.
