How to Remove Gridlines in Google Sheets

Gridlines are nothing but the borderlines around the cells in the spreadsheet, which makes each cell visible separately. You will always find these gridlines applied to the cells by default which helps you enter the data easily in the cells.

But, sometimes, users want to remove/hide the gridlines from the entire sheet and except the specific data range and sometimes want to hide while printing the data set.

In this tutorial, you will get to know how to remove the gridlines from the entire sheet and make the gridlines available on the selected data range.

Remove Gridlines in Google Sheets

  • First, Open the sheet in which you want to remove the gridlines and make sure there must be no border style applied to it.
  • If any border style is already applied, go to the border icon on the toolbar, and remove the borders first.
  • After that, go to the “View” tab and hover the mouse on the “Show” option and then click on “Gridlines” to uncheck it.

  • The moment you uncheck it, the gridlines will get removed from the current spreadsheet.

In the example shown above, there were no borders applied to any cell so the gridlines got removed from the entire sheet.

if you know want the gridlines to be visible only to the data range, select the data range and go to the “Borders” icon and apply the borders to it

Another method of hiding the gridlines is by changing the border color.

  1. First, select the entire sheet and then go to the “Borders” icon to open the multiple border styles options.
  2. There, click on the color dropdown icon and choose white color as the border color.
  3. After that, click on the border style and the gridlines will get removed from the entire sheet.

  • You also can apply borders before or after removing the gridlines as you want.
  • To make the gridlines visible again, go to the “View” tab and this tick checkmark the “Gridlines” option.
